The Living Home Framework™

Three Layers of Design Intelligence

The Living Home Framework™ is guided by three interconnected layers of design intelligence that form the foundation of every residence we create. Before we discuss style, materials, or finishes, we ask a different question.

How do you live?

Your answer becomes the starting point for how your home is planned, experienced, and ultimately designed. Together, these three layers shape how a home functions, how it feels, and how the materials within it contribute to the quality of everyday life.

Layer 01

Spatial Intelligence™

How the home is planned

Before a material is chosen or a finish is selected, the home must first work.

Space planning is the foundation of every successful residence, yet it is often the most overlooked because its intelligence is invisible in finished photography. No one photographs a floor plan, but the floor plan determines whether a home truly supports the people living within it.

The most important decisions happen long before finishes and furnishings enter the conversation.

Spatial Intelligence considers architecture, layout, circulation, proportion, and functionality to create spaces that feel intuitive and purposeful.

We design around the way you cook, gather, work, rest, and connect, creating homes that are functional, adaptable, and aligned with the experiences that matter most.

Beautiful homes begin with beautiful floor plans because every decision that follows is built upon them.

Layer 02

Living Science™

How the home feels

Our brains and bodies respond to the environments we inhabit before we consciously understand why a space feels comfortable, inviting, or unsettling.

Living Science explores the relationship between the built environment and human experience. We consider how natural light, proportion, views, materials, and connection to nature influence the way a home is experienced.

The goal is not simply to create rooms that look beautiful, but to create environments that support the way you live.

Through intentional design decisions, we create spaces that support comfort, restoration, and connection, spaces that feel balanced because they are designed around the people who live within them.

Rather than replacing thoughtful design, research has helped us better understand why these decisions matter and how they contribute to everyday life.

Layer 03

Material Integrity™

What the home is made of

The materials within a home shape more than its appearance. They influence how a space feels, how it ages, and how it performs over time.

Material Integrity is our approach to selecting finishes and materials based on quality, craftsmanship, durability, environmental impact, and their relationship to the people who live with them. We look beyond surface beauty to understand how materials work together as a complete system, how they interact with light, space, touch, and time.

Whenever practical, we prioritize natural, low-toxicity materials and finishes that contribute to healthier indoor environments while aging beautifully over time. We believe materials should perform with integrity, not only aesthetically, but in how they support everyday living.

We prioritize materials that age with intention: unlacquered brass that develops character, natural timber that deepens over time, hand-applied plaster that adds warmth and texture, and stone that creates a lasting connection to the natural world.

Low-toxicity selection is not about compromise. It is about making informed choices that support healthier interiors, lasting quality, and materials that perform with integrity throughout the life of the home.

One Framework, One Standard

When a home is designed around the way it is experienced, it becomes a place that resonates with the lives within it.

This is the standard every project is held to. It is also why clients who have worked with us describe the experience not as having their home designed, but as finally having it understood.

The Restorative Home Index™ is the wellbeing philosophy behind that standard, the lens we apply to every spatial, material, and sensory decision. See how it shapes the way we measure a home's success.
